🎯 Quick Wins
Star Wars Zero Company launched on 27 August for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and early reviews are calling it “XCOM with lightsabers.” If you like turn-based tactics and squad management, this is playable right now, set during the Clone Wars with Captain Rex leading the charge.
Manor Lords just crossed 4 million copies sold and marked the occasion with a genuinely meaty update. The patch adds cattle breeding, cider and mead production, oat threshing and a new cheesemonger role, and the whole game is 35% off on Steam through 10 September, so this is the week to jump in or catch up.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks was announced for Steam Early Access this winter at $24.99. It brings a new physics engine for ride breakdowns and a toy-like visual style, so if management sims are your thing, wishlist it now while it’s fresh.

🧠 Strategy Spotlight: Paradox’s Afterworld
Paradox used its Gamescom slot to reveal Afterworld, a post-apocalyptic grand strategy game set in North America, and it’s a genuine departure for a studio that has spent a decade in historical settings. The game leans on procedurally generated environments and distinct starting origins, including “shelterfolk” and “wayward zealots” factions, each with different diplomacy and warfare options.
What this means for strategy players: Afterworld looks to be building on the systems Paradox refined in Crusader Kings III and Hearts of Iron IV, but applied to a setting with no historical record to fall back on, which could make faction identity and emergent storytelling far more important than usual. Competitive and co-op multiplayer are both confirmed, suggesting Paradox wants this to work as a social strategy game rather than a purely solo grand campaign.
There’s no release date yet, and the reveal itself leaked slightly ahead of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, but this is the kind of announcement worth wishlisting immediately. Expect a longer beta or early access window given how much of the systems design is still unconfirmed, and expect Paradox to lean heavily on community feedback given how far this is from their usual territory.
👀 Worth Watching
Three more titles surfaced at Gamescom worth keeping on your radar. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake was confirmed for 2027 on PC and consoles, a full remake of the 1999 classic reportedly including both expansions, and it’s easy to see it drawing the same crowd who enjoyed our Civilization VII Test of Time update coverage. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros got its first gameplay trailer, an RTS built around four asymmetric factions (Stark, Lannister, Targaryen and the White Walkers) with named hero units, targeting early 2027 with beta signups opening later this year.
Simulation fans got their own surprise with Lego Skylines, a cosy brick-based city builder from Iceflake Studios, the team currently steering Cities: Skylines II, published by Paradox Interactive. It’s landing on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 with no release date yet, but the reveal generated some of the loudest buzz of Gamescom week, and it’s wishlistable on Steam right now if you want first notice when a date lands.
💬 Community Corner
Manor Lords players are already trading build orders for the new livestock economy, working out the most efficient way to chain cattle, cider and cheese production without starving out grain supply. Meanwhile, the indie medieval strategy title Magna Conquest quietly crossed 100,000 Steam wishlists this week, on the strength of its promise to support battles with up to 100,000 units on screen. Worth a look if Total War-scale battles are what you’re after but you want something still in development to follow.
⏭️ Next Week’s Prep
With Zero Company reviews still rolling in and Manor Lords’ sale running through 10 September, there’s plenty to actually play this week rather than just wishlist. Keep an eye on further Afterworld details as Paradox usually follows a big reveal with developer diaries, and we’ll have more on both the HoMM3 Remake and War for Westeros as beta details firm up.
