Which strategy game deserves your evenings this month? Transport Fever 3 launched to a big Steam crowd and a split verdict, and the rest of this week’s news asks the same question. Patches, trailers and a demo festival all land within the next three weeks, so here is what changes for your next session.

🎯 Quick Wins

Dawn of War IV’s Space Marines trailer arrived on 30 September, putting the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels side by side on Kronus. The game launches on 3 December, with Commander Edition buyers getting early access on 30 November. Four factions are confirmed (Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus), and the free Year One updates include Crusade Mode and a Mission Editor.

Civilization VII’s update 1.5.0 added George Washington and Elizabeth I, but Firaxis is still tracking a bug that stops DLC leader achievements unlocking on Steam. Its workaround is to save just before you win, then reload once the fix is live. CivFanatics also reports a 1 October hotfix aimed at late-game crashes and missing resources, so update before your next long campaign.

🧠 Strategy Spotlight: Transport Fever 3

Urban Games and Paradox launched Transport Fever 3 on 29 September for Windows, macOS, Linux, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at $49.99. It peaked at 47,521 concurrent players on Steam in its first day and reached the top-seller chart.

The verdict is split. VideoGamesCritic’s tracker shows critics at 83/100 across eight reviews and Steam players at 69% positive across 2,740 reviews, with performance cited in 48% of negative reviews and UI or controls in 40%. Approval rises from 55% under five hours to 77% between five and 15 hours, which suggests a learning curve as much as a stability problem.

The design changes are real. Maps use node-based generation with smoother biome transitions, roads can be shaped freely with lane-specific traffic control, trams can run underground, and cargo chains now include warehouses and specialised loading stations. Vehicles also wear over time, and heavy terraforming hurts public satisfaction.

If stutter and crashes put you off, wait for the first patches and check the player scores again in a fortnight. If you already enjoy transit planning, give it five hours before judging the interface.

👀 Worth Watching

Frosthaven leaves Early Access on 15 October on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Version 1.0 adds the final story chapter, all 17 heroes, better tutorials, customisable house rules and improved online co-op. Early Access owners get it automatically, existing saves are expected to carry over, and a standalone demo is planned.

Steam Next Fest runs from 19 October to 26 October, starting at 10am PDT. It is the easiest time to try strategy and simulation demos before you wishlist, so clear a few evenings and set aside space for the ones that look promising.

Next week we will check how the first Transport Fever 3 patches land and which Next Fest demos are worth your time.
